GCBC PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON FORMER PRESIDENT JERRY JOHN RAWLINGS

Most Rev. Philip Naameh, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), on Tuesday October 7, 2020, led a delegation to commiserate with the Former President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, on the death of his mother, the late Madam Victoria Agbotui.

After a word of welcome and exchange of pleasantries, Archbishop Naameh gave the reason for the visit. He said, “we are here, on behalf of the GCBC to share in your grief, praying that your mother will be given her rightful place in heaven because she lived a good life”.,

Fr. Anondee on behalf of the Conference delivered an envelope with an undisclosed amount of money, a letter of condolence, and two bottles of Schnapps in accordance with local custom.

Ambassador Victor Gbeho on behalf of the family thanked the Bishops for the visit and the donation. He also took the opportunity to inform the Bishops that Madam Agbotui died on Thursday, September 24, 2020 and would be laid to rest at Dzelukope on Saturday, October 24, 2020 after a burial service at the Forecourt of the State House.

He then entreated the Bishops to pray for the repose of the soul of their mother.

Archbishop Naameh in his response thanked former President Rawlings and the family for making time to receive the delegation and promised to request his brother Bishops to celebrate Masses for the happy repose of the soul of his mother.

The Bishops present then joined Archbishop Naameh to pray for former President Rawlings and gave their blessing, after which he signed the Book of Condolence on behalf of GCBC.

The other members of the delegation include Bishop Kumordji, Bishop Angkyier, Bishop Fianu, Very. Fr. Louis and some Senior Staff of the National Catholic Secretariat.
