The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), has   announced the appointment of a new Secretary General in the person of Very Rev. Fr. Clement Kwasi Adjei, a priest of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese in the Western Region of Ghana.

The announcement and installation of the new Secretary General took place at the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS), Accra, 12th June 2023, during a send-off Mass presided over by Most Rev. Matthew Gyamfi (Bishop of Sunyani Diocese and president of the GCBC); in honour of the outgoing Secretary General, Very Rev. Fr. Lazarus Anondee who has served the Conference as Secretary General for the past 7 years.

Many wonderful things were said of the outgoing Secretary General – his dedication to duty, humility and excellent human relations among other qualities. The GCBC President pointed out that serving the Bishops in the capacity of Secretary General was not an easy job but that Fr. Anondee did it for up to 7 years with distinction. He also noted that Fr. Anondee served the GCBC for a total of 12 years at the NCS, having served in other capacities for 5 years before taking up the position of Secretary General in August 2016. Bishop Gyamfi, on behalf of the GCBC and on his own behalf, thanked Fr. Anondee immensely for the excellent service he rendered and bid him farewell to a well- deserved sabbatical.

Thereafter, Bishop Gyamfi announced the appointment of the new GCBC Secretary General – Very Rev. Fr. Clement Kwasi Adjei. He was called out to take oath of office which he did and was installed as the 11th Secretary General of the GCBC, by the GCBC’s President and the Immediate-Past President, Most Rev. Philip Naameh, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale.

Gifts and Citations were presented to the outgoing Secretary General by the GCBC, the NCS, colleagues and representatives of various bodies, friends and well-wishers present at the August occasion. In his remarks, Fr. Anondee thanked the Bishops, and all his collaborators including the NCS staff for their love and cooperation. He also apologized for his shortcomings. A farewell party followed after the Mass.

The new Secretary General was ordained a Catholic priest on 8th January 1995. He is a lawyer by profession. He is also a staff of the NCS and until his new appointment, was Director of Governance, Justice and Peace Directorate of the NCS.
