Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate

On Tuesday, January 19, 2010, the Donkorkrom Prefecture was elevated to an Apostolic Vricariate headed by the new Apostolic Vicar, Very Rev. Fr. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, who was the former Prefect of the Prefecture.The announcement was made at a News Conference by the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Leon B. Kalenga at the National catholic Secretariat in Accra.Apostolic Vicar Kumordji would be ordained a Bishop at a later date.
What does Apostolic Vicariate mean?

An Apostolic Vicariate is a form of territorial jurisdiction of the Catholic Church established in missionary regions and countries which do not have a Diocese. It is therefore essentially provisional, though it may last for a century or more. The ultimate hope is that the region will generate sufficient number of Catholics and become stable enough for the Church as to warrant erection as a Diocese.

Several hundreds of Catholics and non Catholics from all walks of life, on Easter Monday, April 5, thronged the Agormanya residence in the Krobo District to give thanks to God and celebrate the 100th birthday of Most Rev. Bishop Bowers, Man of Faith Says 100th birthday is gift from God

Some time in March last year, Most Rev. Joseph Oliver Bowers, SVD, former Bishop of Accra Diocese, expressed the wish to clock 100 and God has listened to his prayers as he celebrates it in two weeks time, Sunday March 28.In an interview with The Catholic Standard at his residence at Agormanya in the Manya Krobo District of the Koforidua Diocese, last year, he said his constant prayers and devotion had kept him strong, saying that the same faith will lead him to celebrate his 100th birthday.Indeed, the dreams of the good old Bishop has manifested as he prepares to celebrate his centenary birthday. SECRETARIAT The National Catholic Secretariat, which is the Executive Arm of the Bishops' Conference, was established in 1960 and was registered as a Corporate Body in 1962. Mission Statement The Secretariat is to implement the decisions and policies of the Bishops' Conference through its Departments and Commissions for the spiritual and human development of the people of God. The Secretariat is headed by a Secretary-General, assisted by an Assistant Secretary-General and other Administrative and Accounting personnel. The Secretary-General's Department co-ordinates the activities of the various departments to ensure that decisions and policies of the Bishops' Conference are effectively and efficiently carried out. The Administrative Board is the Executive Organ of the Bishops' Conference. It meets twice in a year, i.e. February and August, to deal with matters which cannot wait for the Plenary Assembly. The Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference, hereinafter referred to as the Bishops' Conference, is a religious organisation having its legal foundation in the Canon Law of the Catholic Church, which applies to all Catholic Churches of the Roman Rite throughout the world. The Bishops' Conference, according to the Canon Law of the Catholic Church (Canon 447-459), is the central Body of the Church in Ghana. Its purpose is to deliberate on matters of concern to the Church in Ghana and to encourage activities in accordance with the needs of the times. All the Bishops in Ghana are members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, which has a President and a Vice President.
